IRC Bids a Fond Farewell to Dr. Tracy Kangas (entry date: 4/19/13)
After more than a decade of outstanding service to IRC and our patients, Dr. Kangas is returning McFarland Clinic, where she had worked prior to joining us in 2002. Her commute to work will be much more convenient and she will now be able to spend more time with her family. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Kangas for her tremendous work. She will be greatly missed by our entire staff and by her many grateful patients.
Automated Appointment Reminders
In order to increase our efficiency in the office so we can serve our patients better, we have switched to an automated system to remind patients of their upcoming appointments. We hope you find the new system convenient. So far, feedback from patients about the system has been very positive. If you have any questions or suggestions relating to the automated appointment reminders, please let us know.
Iowa Retina Helps Provide "Sight for Soldiers"
Iowa Retina played a key role in coordinating Sight for Soldiers, a program sponsored by the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology that provided discounted laser eye surgery for 116 Iowa National Guard soldiers who deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq in the fall of 2010. The climate in those countries is dry and dusty, making contact lenses very difficult to wear, and glasses can be hazardous in combat situations when protective eyewear is required and night-vision goggles are sometimes necessary. Laser eye surgery, made more accessible to the troops through Sight for Soldiers, enabled them to more safely and effectively accomplish their mission by relieving them of the need to depend on glasses or contact lenses while in combat.
